Reading Day Celebration

The National Reading day commemorates the death anniversary of PN Panicker, widely recognized as the ‘Father of the Library Movement’ in the state of Kerala. The day is observed on 19th June every year. Through his leadership in the Kerala Grandhashala Sangham, he spearheaded various initiatives that sparked a cultural revolution in Kerala, leading to the achievement of universal literacy in the state during the 1990s. This day serves as a tribute to PN Panicker’s tireless efforts in transforming society through his literacy movement in India. PN Panicker, revered as the Father of Reading, passed away on June 19, 1995. He was the founder of the Sanadana Dharma Library, which played a pivotal role as the epicenter of the library movement in Kerala.

Reading is a crucial activity that offers numerous benefits, including relaxation, learning, concentration, and the improvement of communication skills. The day encourages individuals to embrace the pleasures of reading, delve into the vast knowledge contained within books, and acknowledge the transformative impact of reading on individuals and communities alike.

The Malayalam department and I.Q.A.C of our college jointly celebrated the Reading Day on 19 June 2023 at General Hall 1 of our college. Ms. Parvathy S of malayalam department rendered the prayer song and Krishnakumar B. T delivered the welcome address. This was followed by the presidential address by our principal Dr. A. V Sujith sir in which he emphasised the importance of reading. The chief guest of the day was Dr. Dominic J Katoor who officially inaugurated the program. He is the associate professor of Malayalam department at University College, Trivandrum. He gave a detailed speech explaining the need and importance of reading and the evolution that took place in the methods of reading. He concluded by singing a beautiful malayalam poem celebrating the importance of reading. This was followed by the poetry recitations of Reshma and Jessy. The program came to an end with Sibana delivering the vote of thanks.

As part of the B.Ed curriculum, the second year B.Ed students of GCTE went for a field trip on 26 September 2023. This field trip was included in the community based practical programme of the second semester syllabus. The purpose of the field trip is usually for observation for education, non-experimental research or to provide students with experiences outside their everyday activities. The department of English, Hindi, Tamil, Social Science and Sanskrit decided to go to Neyyar Dam, Kottoor Elephant Rehabilitation Centre and Koyikal palace. Whole world is celebrating this world cup by organising various activities. As part of celebrating the world cup the Physical Education department of GCTE organised a Prediction C ontest on 25 November 2022 . All teaching and non teaching staffs, students of first and second year B.Ed actively participated in the contest.  Participants were asked to predict the four semi finalist teams, two finalist teams and the winning team of Qatar 2022 World cup. On January 25, National Voters Day is observed to commemorate the founding day of the Election Commission of India, which was created in 1950. The first National Voters Day was observed on January 25, 2011, and ever since then, it has been observed on January 25 with a particular theme. This year will mark the 12th annual National Voters’ Day in 2023.  The National Voters Day 2023 celebration is done by the Indian government as a way to inspire young people to get involved in politics.
