Kalika (Onam Celebration)

The auspicious festival of Kerala, Onam, kickstarted on August 20 and will conclude on August 31 this year. The 10-day-long Onam festivities, also known as Thiru-Onam or Thiruvonam, are celebrated with much pomp across the state as people mark the return of King Mahabali/Maveli. Each day of Onam, namely Atham, Chithira, Chodi, Vishakam, Anizham, Thriketta, Moolam, Pooradam, Uthradom and Thiruvonam - holds much significance. Meanwhile, Thiruvonam, the last day, is the most auspicious day as it marks the end of the Onam celebrations, and families prepare and enjoy Onasadya, the opulent Onam feast.


Our college celebrated onam celebration named ' Kalika' on 23 rd and 24 th of August. On the first day, our Principal Sujith sir inaugurated the program. He said a few words about onam and also our english teacher Omanaseelan sir sung a onam song for us. Later, many games like musical chair, Mittayiperukkal, biscuit kadi, chakkilotam etc were conducted with involvement of both teachers and students. Group dances were done by both B.Ed and M.Ed students.The prizes were also distributed for the winners of games. The first day ended with vadamvali.



On the second day we had to make attapookalam and a mega thiruvathira was also organised. Both these days were really memorable.  On the second day Maveli Tamburan also came to visit us.

CHIRANTHANA- DAY 1

  The community living camp of the academic year 2023-2024 began on February 12, 2024. The first session of our camp “Chiranthana” was held at the general hall 2 of GCTE, Thycaud. Al the students, teachers and the camp coordinators Ms. Asha Krishnan, Ms. Sreeja and Ms. Anju assembled for the first session titled “Earn while you Learn : Socially Useful Productive Work”. Under the leadership of the resource persons Sri. Ummer and Sri. Sukumaran, students prepared lotion and hand wash. We collected bottles for filling the lotion and by this act we tried to reuse the plastic bottles found in our surroundings, thus resonating the theme of sustainable development. Thus, the preparation of the socially useful productive activities in the community and to acquire the knowledge of the source of various raw materials and different tools and equipment used in the production of goods and services. PHASE 2 - DAY 4

On 15/06/2024, Saturday, the school had a regular working day till 12 in the noon with Tuesday's timetable.  In the 2nd hour, I engaged 9C. I was able to discuss the next 3 stanzas of the poem "Nothing Twice" with the students. The teacher was doubtful as to whether the students were able to grasp the philosophical ideas articulated in the poem. Since the main objective of teaching poetry is to appreciate the poem, this always limited the teacher's role to an extend.  In this class, to the surprise of the teacher Sabaina answered a question and the teacher gave enough appreciation. To improve their vocabulary the teacher decided to select one new word from the textbook as the 'Word of the Day' and the learners found it quiet interesting. PHASE 2 - DAY 3

On 14/06/2024, Friday,  3rd hour, I conducted the pre test for my project in 9 C. As an invigilator the teacher advised the students not to copy and to write whatever they know. The test was designed to test their writing skills. It included questions to check their writing competency in both sentence level construction and paragraph level construction. The teacher was able to observe that many students lacked the subskills of writing like neatness, grammatical correctness of sentence, accuracy, logical organisation and the like. The test was conducted for a total of 20 marks and after the class, I corrected the papers. The teacher was literally shocked when she corrected some papers. I was able to realise that even though they have reached 9th standard, some students lacked the basic LSRW skills.
