POSTER MAKING COMPETITION

GCTE Thycaud in association with Human Rights and Ethics Cell organised a POSTER MAKING COMPETITION in connection with the International Human Rights Day. The theme for the competition was "DIGNITY, FREEDOM, AND JUSTICE FOR ALL". The event was conducted from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm on 12th December 2022. The venue for the competition was Sanskrit Room. Each department was instructed to do one poster and for this two students from each department was selected. 

The competition was mandatory for all the Departments of B.Ed. The participating teams were not allowed to use any stickers and their mobile phones. The posters would have to be original which can be accounted for and have not been competed or published. Chart papers and sufficient color pens were brought by the student teachers themselves. Teacher volunteers and student volunteers came to the Sanskrit room at the time of competition for observation. Jayakrishna teacher from the department of Hindi made her constant presence available in the hall. Code numbers were given to the posters to ensure the transparency of evaluation. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA included the following: Relevance to the Theme, Originality, Creativity, Colour Harmony and Visual Impact.

Representing English department myself and Bhagya participated. Sruthy ( Commerce dept), Sibana and sister Linu (Malayalam dept), Kavya and Gowri (Natural Science dept), Vignesh and Jennifa (Tamil dept), Mahima and Aswathy and Mahima (Maths dept), Reshma and Anagha (Sanskrit dept), Chinju and Gayathri (Hindi dept), Basil and Devika (Geography dept), Mary and Praveen( Social science dept) participated in the competition.

CHIRANTHANA- DAY 1

  The community living camp of the academic year 2023-2024 began on February 12, 2024. The first session of our camp “Chiranthana” was held at the general hall 2 of GCTE, Thycaud. Al the students, teachers and the camp coordinators Ms. Asha Krishnan, Ms. Sreeja and Ms. Anju assembled for the first session titled “Earn while you Learn : Socially Useful Productive Work”. Under the leadership of the resource persons Sri. Ummer and Sri. Sukumaran, students prepared lotion and hand wash. We collected bottles for filling the lotion and by this act we tried to reuse the plastic bottles found in our surroundings, thus resonating the theme of sustainable development. We also made handmade labels for hand wash. Thus, the preparation of the socially useful productive activities in the community and to acquire the knowledge of the source of various raw materials and different tools and equipment used in the production of goods and services. PHASE 2 - DAY 4

On 15/06/2024, Saturday, the school had a regular working day till 12 in the noon with Tuesday's timetable.  In the 2nd hour, I engaged 9C. I was able to discuss the next 3 stanzas of the poem "Nothing Twice" with the students. The teacher was doubtful as to whether the students were able to grasp the philosophical ideas articulated in the poem. Since the main objective of teaching poetry is to appreciate the poem, this always limited the teacher's role to an extend.  In this class, to the surprise of the teacher Sabaina answered a question and the teacher gave enough appreciation. To improve their vocabulary the teacher decided to select one new word from the textbook as the 'Word of the Day' and the learners found it quiet interesting. PHASE 2 - DAY 3

On 14/06/2024, Friday,  3rd hour, I conducted the pre test for my project in 9 C. As an invigilator the teacher advised the students not to copy and to write whatever they know. The test was designed to test their writing skills. It included questions to check their writing competency in both sentence level construction and paragraph level construction. The teacher was able to observe that many students lacked the subskills of writing like neatness, grammatical correctness of sentence, accuracy, logical organisation and the like. The test was conducted for a total of 20 marks and after the class, I corrected the papers. The teacher was literally shocked when she corrected some papers. I was able to realise that even though they have reached 9th standard, some students lacked the basic LSRW skills.
