NATIONAL TOOTH BRUSHING DAY AND FREE DENTAL CAMP

Every year November 7th is celebrated as National Tooth brushing day and it is observed in India to reinforce the importance of children's oral health and promote good tooth brushing habits recommended by dental health professionals.

As a part of National Tooth Brushing Day 2022, GCTE Thycaud in collaboration with Noorul Islam College of Dental Sciences, Aralumoodu, Neyyantinkara had organised a free dental camp on 7th November at the UGC Hall of GCTE. Students of B.Ed, M.Ed and teachers of GCTE, and a few final year BDS students of Nooral Islam College participated in the program.

The program began with a prayer song sung by my fellow classmate Reshma which was followed by the welcome speech delivered by Bushra Ansari. After the inauguration, Dr. VK Santhosh Kumar sir, Principal, GCTE rendered the presidential address and inaugural address. Felicitation addresses were delivered by Dr. Syam Kumar, HOD, Department of Public Health Dentistry, NIMS Hospital and Dr. Joly S, Vice Principal, GCTE.

House surgeons and the final year BDS students of NIMS under the guidance of Dr. Syam Kumar organized a skit on the topic "Dental hygiene". Akash, the central character of the skit is the representative of the degenerating youth and showcases lot of bad habits. Through his character the skit was able to achieve its aim of showing the negative impacts of neglecting our oral hygiene.

After this, health talks were given by Akshay A.R and Alwin S Clement and they explained some common dental problems we face in our day -to-day life like tooth decay and its precautions. They also talked about the need for healthy food habits and balanced diet that in turn make our teeth and our whole body healthy. A video presentations regarding the manners of brushing for children and adults were displayed along with messages related to tooth health from the part of doctors and BDS students from Noorul Islam College of Dental Sciences. Some instructions include brushing our teeth twice in a day , using mouth wash , avoiding smoking - drinking habits and so on.

The Free dental camp was held with the participation of GCTE students, teachers and non-teaching staffs. The doctors were very friendly and they conveyed the issues regarding teeth to respective students. I also consulted a doctor to know more about the issue of the gap occuring in my teeth and to know its preventive methods. Most of the student teachers participated in the free dental camp.

The dental camp came to an end around 1pm. The program was very much illuminating and made us aware of the importance of oral hygiene. First year B.Ed student Kavya Sagar delivered the vote of thanks to everyone and our principal gave a momento as a token of love to Dr. Shyam Kumar on behalf of GCTE.
