ANTI-DRUG HUMAN CHAIN
On 1st November 2022, the student teachers of GCTE, Thycaud participated in "Say no to drugs" campaign's closure program conducted by Government of Kerala held at Martyrs' Column, Palayam. This campaign began on 6th October 2022 and came to an end on 1st November 2022.
The program started at 3 pm with respected Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan lighting the lamp in the presence of V. Sivankutty (Minister of Education and Labour, Kerala) and Dr. R. Bindu (Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice) and other officials. As part of this an anti drug human chain was formed by school students and college students across the state and this marked the end of the first phase of the state government’s ‘No to drugs’ campaign. College students geared up for the human chain held from Gandhi Park to Vellayamablam Ayyankali square. Nearly 25,000 students participated in this. Symbolic intoxicants were burnt on the occasion. Similar programmes were held across the state.The students from GCTE participated in the human chain from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.The formation of human chain was followed by an anti-drugs pledge.
Honourable Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Education Minister V. Shivankutty and Higher Education Minister R.Bindhu conveyed their messages on the need to curb drug abuse among school and college students. They also mentioned how these issue can be solved if all of us stay together against this. As student teachers, being a part of this program was a memorable moment. Followed by the speech, the congratulatory videos by famous personalities were presented in the venue. The videos included from Shri. Kamal Hassan, Shri. Mohanlal, Smt. Manju Warrior etc. Later a skit was done by school students which provide a awareness on the anti-drugs. The program came to an end at 4:30 pm.
The Higher Education Department of Kerala had launched a massive anti-narcotic awareness campaign named ‘Bodha Poornima’.The programme marking the end of the first phase of the campus-level ‘Bodha Poornima’ campaign was held at University College at 11am. The declaration of the successful completion of the first phase of ‘Bodha Poornima’ in all higher educational institutions was held at a different venue on the same day.
