ANTI DRUG CAMPAIGN AND CLUB INAUGURATION
As part of the anti narcotic campaign month(October 1 - November 1) observed by the Kerala government, on 26 October 2022, GCTE Thycaud conducted a anti drug awareness and campaign program at 11 am in UGC hall. Sridevi, a research scholar hosted the program and it started with a prayer sung by Karthika Suresh, first year B.Ed student. Dr. V. K. Santhosh Kumar welcomed everyone to the function and he pointed the significance and the need for such a campaign in the current scenario. This was followed by presidential address by Sri. Madava Das, ward councillor, Thycaud. The program was inaugurated by Sri. P. K. Jayaraj, Excise Division Officer, Fort, Trivandrum.
In the followed inauguration he talked about his apprehensions and anxieties. He stated that drugs engulfed people in the modern world. He shared his personal experience of a girl telling him to legalise the use of drugs. He also mentioned the case took by police against a girl named Rafa and gold how this studious girl fell in the trap of a gang of boys and got addicted to drugs. He also told about the culture of five star hotels and what they do in the mask of Dj parties. He took our attention into the harmful use of mdma drug which is also called party drug and date rape drug since they create mrmory loss. Hr raised his concern regarding the use of drugs among school children and their love for that. He then grabbed our attention to the legal side of using drugs. He said that my life my rules my freedom are all myths and illustrated it with comic examples. He defined Freedom as the accomodation of interest. He criticised the changing living culture and family set which arised out of increased limits of globalisation, liberalisation and privatisation. He made us think about the way as to how these drugs are used in a political way. Finally he made us remember the aims and task of a techer in developing the character of a child. He said that modern day teachers are not able to influence and tackle students and stressed the need to fill this gap. He exhorted the youth to assemble and fight against this social evil. As part of this campaign hostel formed Sradha committee and college started Nerkootam.
After this prize distribution was done for the inter departmemtal anti-drug script writing competition and anti-drug poster making competition. In the script writing, first prize was bagged by the students of Social science department. Second position was given to Sanskrit department, third to mathematics department and consolation prizs for Commerce department. Chinju. S.Nair and Mariya George from 1st semester B.Ed got first and second respectively in the poster design competition. All the students were asked to take anti drug oath.
After this, felicitation was given by Sri. Sabu Valerian, PTA Vice President in which he recalled his past experiences in GCTE. Felicitation was also said by Gayathri B.L, chairperson, College Union and Metilda Alphonse, student co-ordinator. The program came to a climax with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Rajasree. K, anti narcotic club convenor, GCTE Thycaud and it came to an end with national anthem.
