PHASE 2- DAY 25
On 17-07-2024, Wednesday, 3'd hour, I engaged 90 students and I was able to complete the chapler 'The Toilet'. In the introductory session, teacher understood that some students have read the chapter to know the climax. The learners expressed their concern for the narrator and they even wondered when they realised that the story is partly an autobiography. Even though the students of 9C laughed a lot when they initially came to know the narrator writes and thinks when she sits in the toilet seat, now they expressed their sympathy for her plight. I selected the word screaming as the word of the day. Even though they were familiar with the word, teacher instructed them to create sentences with it. Leaners responded to the comprehesion question in their target language andrealised it as a positive change. Duing the loud reading I realised that the reading style and pronunciation of Swapna and Sneha were so immature lo suit the cognitive level of a ninth standard student. Teacher gave them repeated reading sessions, which showed some kind of Improvement in their word recognitions ability. To teach them pronunciation, I showed them the phonetic transcription which created excitement in the learners.
The discourse of constructing a write-up from the web diagram was given towards the end and the topic was 'Types of diseases The topic generated discussion in the class as the number of active cases of Viral fever in Kerala was increasing day by day. The teacher allowed the learners to do it independently and gave guided practice to those needed. I realised that the ability of the learners to create new sentences has drastically improved. Overall the class went good.
