PHASE 2 - DAY 2

On 13/06/2024, Thursday the school organised a special assembly following the instruction of the government to make the children aware about rabies. The assembly began with the usual morning prayer, pledge, news, thought for the day and new word. After this, the HM introduced the special guest of the day: Dr. Lekshmi, vetenary doctor from Trikannapuram Govt hospital. She started her talk by explaining what rabies is, detailing how the virus affects both animals and humans. The talk emphasizes the importance of prevention. The speaker discusses the critical steps to take if bitten by an animal, such as immediately washing the wound in running water, and seeking medical attention for post-exposure prophylaxis. She also stressed the importance of vaccinating pets and avoiding contact with stray dogs. The PTA president Ms. Jisha did the felicitation and the senior most teacher of the school Ms. Manju delivered the vote of thanks. The assembly concluded with the national anthem.

During the 7th hour, I engaged  9C students. Today was my first class. Nimmy tr came for observation. I was a little bit nervous as the textbook was new. I felt as if those familiar faces and that familiar place we ostile to me. As instructed by Nimmy tr, I began with a poem in Unit 1 titled "Nothing Twice" by Wislawa Szymborska. The students found difficult to pronunce the name of the poet. I felt a philosophical air fuming in the class when I introduced the theme of the poem and was able to realise that the mind and thoughts of many students were wandering behind the theme of the poem. I found Sabarna a bit improved than the previous year but the teacher assigned Nakshatra as an elbow partner to her. The incident of Sivaganga misinterpreting the word "none" to the ghost "nun" created a kind of comic relief in the class. Mass anaswering is still the nature of the class.  The discourse given by the teacher to write about a past event that they wanted to recreate and or relish again made the students lost and immerese themsleves into their memories. Towards the end of the class the teacher also briefed them about the experimental study she will be conducting in their class in the coming days and they assured cooperation.

During the break time many of my former students from 9 A came running to me and asked my whereabouts. They were eager to know if I have classes with them but sadly I do not. This made the teacher realise that they love her and value her presence.
