PHASE 1 -DAY 35 ( Conscientisation Programme )

On 11-12-2023, Monday, 4th hour, we were able to conduct one conscientization programme. Since CMGHSS war a girl's school, we decided the topic "Menstrual Health and hygiene". We are a total of nine trainees there, so we divided the topic into 9 subunits to ensure everyone's participation. We prepared brochure, charts and PowerPoint slides to capture the attention of students.  The task of brochure making was upon me. Chinju from Hindi department was the in charge of chart preparation. Even though some evaded from the preparations, we were able to complete it on time.

We selected 9B students as our audience. In the introduction section Ms. Devika from Sanskrit department gave an excellent speech on the taboos and myths related to mensturation. She explained them and gave the scientific reasons behind everything. Next, I was given the opportunity to introduce the menstrual products that evolved throughout the history. I made them familiar with the kind of leaves used by earlier people before the invention of sanitary pads. Students expressed their doubts regarding tampoon. After this, Anupama from Physical Science discussed about the menstrual cycle and how we can keep a track of it. This was really useful as many students were able to know whether their periods are regular or not. Liji Sister from social science department further elucidated the changes that occur within our mind. she told about the emotional imbalances and the stress and anxiety we experience.

This was followed by Remya from social science suggesting the remedies of the same. Ms. Sandhya from physical science department explained the need for hygiene during the menstruation period and explained the measures we should take to keep ourselves neat and tidy. This was followed by Ms. Anakha discusing the diseases for associated with irregular periods.

Finally, as the name our conscientization program suggest - "Go with the Flow", we introduced the magical product; the menstrual cup to the students.  Ms. Chinju from Hindi department did a detailed session on the same. She showed them a menstrual cup and demonstrated its usages and the various methods by which it can be inserted. Students were very excited as they shared their small anxieties with Chinju which can be related by other students also. This was followed by Ms. Sudheera explaining the advantages of menstrual cup over other menstrual products. Overall, the class went good with the participation of all the trainees and the students.
