PHASE 1 - DAY 28

On 01-12-2023, Friday, 3rd hour, I conducted an achievement test for IX A students. During the observation I identified that many students came without studying anything and this saddened the teacher. Even though the teacher repeated some questions exactly from the textbook, the students failed to answer. Some students tried to copy which the teacher strictly prohibited. Teacher realised that many of the students didn't have any value to this examination. Students said that they found the questions in the grammar part quiet confusing.

In the 4th hour, I had a session with 8C students and we continued our discussion on the chapter "The Merchant of Venice". Students came late to the class after the second language class and they were very restless to hear the story. Since they don't have a regular English class, only a few students had the textbooks. So the teacher focused on conveying the story to the learners. Since they were very weak in recognizing letters and sounds, teacher decided to give reading drills to the students with the available text books. The day went good with the participation of the students.

In the 5th hour, I engaged IX A students and we continued the chapter "The Trio". Since the class was after the exam, many students asked their doubts. Teacher showed her unhappiness and told them that she was not satisfied. After some informal talks we continued the class. Sandra and Shilpa did the loud reading and the students actively engaged in the activity session. Teacher realised the coldness of the learners towards the studies. They were all interested in stories and poems but not in examinations. Teacher was also surprised when they told her that they don't care about marks. Aamina even shared her experience of getting less marks in Onam exam.
