PHASE 1- DAY 26 (P.E. observation)

On 29-11- 2023, Wednesday, 3rd hour, our physical education trainer Mr. Rosh Kumar visited our school to observe our class. I got an opportunity to engage 8B students. Teacher prepared a minor game for the students. Since I was involved in sports in my school days, I was not tensed and the warms up activities and exercises were familiar to me. I always loved physical education periods during my school days and always wanted to become a physical education trainer. Sitting in that ground with a dodgeball on my hands, I revisited many happy moments of achievements.

When the period began, I made the students come in a line to the ground, followed by small warm up activities like walking, jogging and stretching exercise. I understood that some students were very shy to do all these, and they even passed a rhetoric question when the teacher asked them to do hip rotation. Many are unfamiliar even with the style of running at 8th standard. This made me lack confidence. However, when I started the minor game "Metor ball", they showed much interest. But I knew the flame was soon going to die. When the game began many students were simply standing without any movement and the teacher had to continuously go behind them asking them to run. Moreover, due to lack of practice of the students, many times teacher had to run behind the ball also. The students were standing in groups not moving away from their friends. Only the NCC students were active. Teacher found it bit difficult.

But the timely intervention of Rosh Kumar sir saved the teacher's anxiety. He advised me to divide the class into two groups and instructed me to make the "meteor ball' as 'Dodge ball". So, the teacher grouped the class into two and asked one team to be inside the circle and the other team to be fielders. This was a successful idea, and it ever became more interesting when the teacher gave a time limit to both teams who field in the game. Teacher realized that even after dividing them into groups, many students were not active. Many students were walking and running as if they were going to fall. When the allotted time was over team 1 could not eliminate one player of Team 2. But in the next round Team 2 was not able to eliminate 3 people from Team 1 and the winner was decided.

After the class, I and Rosh sir engaged in a deep conversation about the deteriorating condition and little importance given to sports and games in some schools. The girls were very much secluded into their safe zones. Apart from the problem of the children the teacher was able to take the 45 mins class very satisfactorily.
