PHASE 1 - DAY 25
On 29-11-2023, Wednesday, 8th hour, I engaged 9A students with a grammar-based class. Teacher chose to do it in "concept attainment model" and the topic was 'adverbs'. Apart from the usual ways of interaction teacher maintained a structured way of teaching throughout the class. As this model gives more importance and participation for students, teacher gave more freedom and space for discussion. Teacher found that working in groups is really beneficial for students. I found the students toiling at times to arrive at an answer. They tried to note down the discussed points in their notebook. During the session teacher felt that many students lack the very basics and thus they are not able to contribute much. Thus, this model slowed my pace of teaching though it was one of the most effective model to teach grammar. However, Sai Darshana identified the concept after a lot of scaffolding from the teacher. She herself described it as a herculean task. After the identification of the concept from positive and negative exemplars, the class went smooth with the rest of the exercises. Students asked the teacher about the change in the approach, structure and idea all of a sudden. Though, they understood the concept, the way of teaching was not for their likeness. Since this model depend on the cognition of the students and their discriminatory behavior and power, the class initially went slow. However, the students were fascinated when teacher showed them the activity charts. The class went well, and I was able to complete the model.
