PHASE 1 - DAY 17 (OBSERVATION 1)




On 16-11-2023, Thursday, 2nd hour, I had a session with 9A students. We started a new story "The Trio" by R. K. Narayan. In the introductory part, teacher showed them a friendship video and elicited their responses. The students actively engaged in the interactive session as they unceasingly talked about their friends. The students were very active and receptive. The teacher was able to make a smooth transition into the topic.  The profile of R.K. Narayan was familiarised with the help of power point slides. After the teacher reading, the word study was done in a different way. Teacher provided different sentences for a particular word and elicited the meaning from the students. I found it very effective. Moreover, teacher felt very confident in the teaching aid (word study chart) she prepared. After the comprehension, loud reading was conducted. To develops the language skills of the students, the teacher asked them to complete a conversation, which the students did perfectly well. Teacher then made the four groups read and present their conversation. All the four groups wrote it almost the same. Since there was 10 more minutes left, the teacher made more students read the 1st paragraphs. Teacher also made them do another activity in which they were asked to write about the quality of their best friend and the adventure they would like to have with them. Even though such an unexpected situation came up, the teacher was able to manage the class well. 




Omanasheelan Sir, came for class observation that day and he gave me a detailed feedback and correction that need to be made to improve my teaching. I found the pedagogy practiced by Omanasheelan sir entirely different from the one taught to us by Sheena teacher. But the effectiveness of his pedagogy is unquestionable for many reasons. In this class though I was not much tensed, I found myself running over the passage. Sir pointed out this and asked me to slow down my pace.
