PHASE 1- DAY 16

On 15-11-2023, Wednesday, 2nd hour, I discussed the 1st stanza of the poem "On Killing a Tree" with 9B students. In the introduction session, the teacher elicited the student's views about the importance of trees. Ashna shared the incident that happened in the surroundings- the constant soil erosion due to large scale cutting of trees. It helped the teacher to give a smooth transition into the poem. Teacher used PowerPoint slides to make the learners familiar with the poet Gieve Patel. Teacher then played the recitation of the poem which was very effective. To ensure more classroom participation the teacher made 4 students read the 1st stanza. Comprehension was done very interactively. The appreciation of the poem was done by the students themselves which surprised the teacher. Many students in 9B were familiar with the figures of speech like personification metaphor and alliteration this really made the teacher happy. The session ended well with the participation of students.

In the 5th hour, I discussed "First Showers" poem with 8C students. Teacher identified that with each passing day the bond between the teacher and the students were becoming stronger. Since the poem is a small one, the teacher took only one period to finish at. I found that the poem was much easier to teach in 8C than in 8B. Teacher was surprised when one student compared the lady in the poem to her mother. Teacher felt a deep sense of attachment to that student. As a whole, the class went well. On that day to the surprise of the teacher a student came up with the picture that teacher asked to draw as an assignment. It was based on the chapter "The Day in the Country". Teacher appreciated her.
