PHASE 1 - Day 6
After a long break, on 31 October 2023, Tuesday we rejoined CMGHSS, Poojapura, after our 2nd semester examination. In the second hour I was able to start a new chapter "A Day in the Country" with my 8 C students. Some of them even enquired how my exams went. After a small informal talk, I introduced them the lesson. I found that the students were still reluctant to answer the questions in the link talk. They were not ready to open up as they fear they might say something wrong. As a teacher, I insisted them, but it was useless. I decided to start some activities to improve their confidence and reduce their inhibition. The teacher observed that the students have problem only with sentence construction as they were answering all the comprehension questions. Even though they answered the comprehension question in groups, the teacher found Nitya very active in finding all the answers. Teacher then restructured the class from 6 to 4 groups depending on the availability of number of benches and desks. I also selected 4 new group leaders. I was satisfied with my class and was able to complete my lesson plan.
In the 7th hour, I engaged IX A students. We tried to start the first stanza of the poem "On Killing a tree". Since we were in a hurry to complete "Jungle Air Crash" last week, I didn't get enough time to connect with my students After completing the lesson plan, I had an informal conversation with them I also discussed the need to divide the class into groups as I felt that many girls sit in gangs without listening and murmuring every now and then. I made them write some slogans which made me understand that the cognitive level of 9th standard student are much higher than that of 8th standard. Teacher made them read these slogans related to environmental protection. Many students did it very creatively, but some students copied it from others. Teacher then encouraged them to express their own ideas, which was somewhat successful.
