PHASE 1 - Day 3
On 11-10-2023, Wednesday I took a session for 8 C students during the first hour. We tried to continue with stanzas 3, 4 and 5 from the poem "The Song of the Flower". Students showed more interest to learn than the previous day and that was actually welcoming. On this day also the teacher used videos and images to explain the difficult words. Reading infront of other students stood as a hard task for all students. But they were always interested in asking their doubts. Managing the class was easy for me as there were only one or two students who were making noise. Making the children do activity in the classroom will help a teacher to understand their LSRW skills and it also helps the children to improve a lot. The students enthusiastically did the activity of writing small four-line poem, imagining themselves as a flower in the garden. Teacher understood that many students simply replicated the example given by the teacher in the activity card. Though the poems written by the children looked like passages and filled with grammar and spelling errors, the involvement and interest shown by the students motivated the teacher. The teacher started loving the class and decides to bring new and innovative activities for their improvement.
I got substitution in the next hour in 8 C and we completed the next two stanzas of the poem. The teacher then made the students answers the textual questions. Since many students didn't do the homework, the teacher again asked the learners to do activity in their textbook as homework. I felt very confident after that class. I realised that the rapport between teacher and students are increasing day by day. I was able to complete my lesson plan as I envisioned. Though the students of 8C were ignorant they were very co-operative.
During the last hour, I was able to take a session with IX A students. I was totally dissatisfied since I was not able to follow the lesson plan and take the class as I had decided. Since it was the last hour and the students came late after the IT period, I got only 20 minutes to take the class. I didn't had enough time to interact with them, a sense of strangeness was there among the students and the teacher. They were very reluctant to respond and only when the teacher ask something repeatedly they used to answer. I was totally uncomfortable in the way my 9 th std classes were going. Moreover I found the task of completing a lengthy lesson in 5 days for a group of average and below average students was a herculean task for the teacher.
