PHASE 1 - Day 2




On 10-10-2023, Tuesday, I could discuss the first and second stanza of the poem "The Song of the flower" with 8 C students. Many students were attentive and to my surprise some students started to respond in the class. This totally baffled me as I was not expecting such kind an action. But still, there were many students who were not ready to answer because of their inhibition. Everyone was ready to respond in groups. Mass answering was the nature of the class. Teacher insisted for individual answering and encouraged students to stand up and answer loudly. At first, they were reluctant to do so. In this class. teacher used the method of code switching and this made the students happy. The students were very receptive when the teacher showed them videos fand pictures using PowerPoint. During the silent reading session, the teacher understood that the students cannot read properly and found two students Saparna and Lavanya very weak in basic LSRW skills to for a quick solution, the teacher assigned two other students to help and support them. To the surprise of the teacher, many students asked the meaning of the wards they found difficult. The reality was, they were ready to ask doubts, but they lacked the courage when it comes to speaking in English. For the loud reading session none of the students volunteered but on insistence four student read the poem and the teacher corrected their errors in pronunciation. Inhibition in facing the audience was high among students. Students were pretty much interested in visual aids like videos and charts. They were ready to learn vocabulary through pictures and videos.

For the activity teacher made the student's conte about their favourite flower and describing its quality. Students enthusiastically participated in it and pasted their responses in the activity chart. From the responses teacher found that many students lack basic grammatical knowledge, and a lot of spelling mistakes were there. But the teacher was entirely happy as she was able to complete the lesson plan and there was also an improvement in the response of the children.
