SOCIAL SERVICE
As part of SUPW mentioned in the curriculum a social service or community work had to be done by the B.Ed. students. Our class was divided into several groups and were assigned the task of watering the vegetable garden in Government Model HSLPS, Nursery, Thycaud. Our group consisting of 10 students went to water the plants on 20 March 2023, Monday. We reached there at 3:00 p.m. The vegetable garden is situated behind the school building. It was a large garden with the variety of vegetables and the school authorities harvested from this garden and used it for the mid day meal program. Vegetables like brinjal, pumpkin, cucumber, tomato, beans, spinach, cowpea and agastya plant or the hummingbird tree were there.
Throughout the garden there was proper pipe connection to sprinkle water but to some places we had to fetch water in a bucket. We took a total of one hour to water all the plants. This community work provided us insights about the need to create our own small organic garden. It also helped us to understand better and work properly and efficiently in a group. Through this we where able to analyse and understand the need for doing social works or services unitedly rather than individually. It was totally a new experience and this community work can be seen as another socially useful work as be were able to help the school authorities and was able to reduce there workload. Thus by sparing some of our time for them community work was done with total satisfaction.
