SCHOOL INDUCTION DAY 2: FACING THE HERCULEAN TASK

The second day of the school induction program was on January 5, 2023 and we reached the Govt Girls HSS at 9 am with increased vigour and zeal. Every monday and thursday the school conducts assembly at the school auditorium and we had a chance to witness the same since January 5 was a thursday. The assembly was conducted by the students of 6 B. It began with a prayer sung by a group of students followed by the rendition of the National Pledge in malayalam. In order to make students familiar with the day to day events, a news reading session was organised. The recitation of a malayalam poem as the special program made the assembly more vibrant. Then the headmistress Ms. Pushpa George addressed the gathering and made some general announcements. After this, the assembly came to an end with the recital of the National anthem. Most of the students seem to be restless and talkative during the assembly and paid scant regard to the happenings on the stage.

After the assembly we collected the  relevant data's from the authorities. Headmistress who gave us information about the number of students in the school, achievements, number of teachers, scholarships, co-curricular activities, NSS,NCC etc. The office staff showed all the registers handled by the school and with their permission we took photos. After collecting datas from High school section we collected datas from Higher Secondary with the help of Principal Ms. Bindu Shivadas. She gave all the relevant information that we want for preparing induction report.
We had prepared lesson plan on the topic "The Happiness Machine" as we were alloted the same the day before, to be taught in std 9-B during the fourth hour. Unexpectedly we were asked to take the same portion for std 9-C during the second hour. Thus we ventured into our maiden teaching practice in the school during the second hour. Ms.Arya from the department of english, St.Thomas College introduced herself in the class since she will be engaging further classes for them for the nexr 30 days as part of her teaching practice program. She then left the clasw for us, myself and Ms.Kavya Dinesh, while she herself retired to observe our classes. I was the first to handle the classes and was assigned to introduce the title of lesson and the author to the children and hence I was able to gather student's attention and interest and handed over the class to Ms. Kavya Dinesh. She taught the first 3 paragraphs of the same lesson and concluded the class. Since we have already prepared the lesson plan it was easy for us to handle the fourth hour in 9 B. The class concluded with the enactment of role play by 2 students based upon the topic that was taught. I felt that the students of class 9 C were more active when compared to the students of 9 B.

After the lunch break we approached the headmistress Ms. Pushpa George and gathered information regarding the various documents maintained in the school. We then roamed in the school premises for some time and observed different boards fixed on the walls. We also saw the pathetic condition of the waste collection system which is not well maintained. After the National anthem at 3:30 pm we left the school.
