PATHWAY: SOCIAL LIFE WELLNESS PROGRAMME


DAY 1

As part of Department of Minority Welfare and Government of Kerala, organized 3 days seminar on the topic “PATHWAY-SOCIAL LIFE WELLNESS PROGRAMME” in GCTE, Thycaud. The seminar was conducted on 17th,18th and 19th January 2023 at the General Hall. Each day the seminar was conducted in two sessions; morning and afternoon. 

On the first day the programme started with a prayer and the welcome speech was given by Dr. Issac Paul, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce. This was followed by the presidential address by Dr. V.K. Santhosh Kumar, the Principal. In his speech he mentioned about the latest ways of living styles adopted by the young boys and girls and its advantages and disadvantages. After that, the inauguration of the program is done by Sri. G. Madhavadas, Ward Counsellor, Thycaud. He gave a speech on the changing environment and the society's drastically altering views on the marriage. He compared the traditional and modern way of marriage expectations. Later, the felicitation was given by Dr. Jayakrishna K, Assistant professor, Department of Hindi. She pointed out the relevance of the topic and the vote of thanks was given by the program cordinator Asha teacher.

Session 1
MARRIAGE FOR SOCIAL WELLNESS

Dr. Joju John (a life skills trainer and research consultant from Trivandrum) led the first session, which was on "marriage for wellness." He is also the Assistant professor of Technology in Mar Theophilos B.Ed Training College, Nalanchira.  He class was very engaging  and interactive. He stressed the value of our efforts in fostering right brain development. We are all aware that days spent in school naturally develop the left brain. But for the right brain to develop, serious efforts are needed. He highlighted the value of family, parents, and other relatives. He told us many of his personal experiences which ignited our minds and made us think. He supports the traditional familial system where there is a close bonf between father, mother and children. At the end he shared his power point presentation with us.

Session 2 
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS FOR COUPLES

Rafeeq sir was in charge of the afternoon session. He dealt the topic "Effective Communication skills for couples and healthy online communications". Additionally, he underlined the value of marriage and the necessity of open communication in it. On the ideas that the resource person offered, some of the pupils expressed their dissatisfaction. At 4:15 PM, the session came to an end.

EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF RELATIONSHIPS

On the third day after the prayer by Parvathy of first B.Ed, Asha teacher welcomed the resource person Bindu Philip. At 9.45 AM, the third  session began and it was totally an interactive session about creating a happy family. The topic was "Effective management of In- law relationships and conflict resolution techniques".The session was really interactive. She split the class into ten groups to talk about various family issues and their resolutions. It was mandated that each team present two disagreements and their resolutions. Some conflicts stemmed from expectations, ego clashes, controlling partner behaviour, outside influences, etc. The common remedies that arose were communication, understanding, etc. It's essential for people to have the ability to solve problems, make decisions, be financially independent, and respect and understand one another.

Session 4
SEX EDUCATION AND PREGNANCY

Ms. Deepa led the afternoon session, and the topic was "Infant-adolescent parenting skills, sex education, and pregnancy." The lecture was really educational. Her explanations of parenting, sex education, and adolescence were clear. She explained about the different types of parenting styles. The four types of parenting are authoritarian, authoritative, permissive and uninvolved. She also explained in detail the physical and behavioural changes happening to both girls and boys at the adolescent period. She made the students do an interesting activity. The session came to an end at 4.15 pm.

Session 5
LEGAL AND RELIGIOUS ASPECTS OF MARRIAGE

The fifth and the opening session of the final day was handled by resource person Adv. Thomas. His subject was "Legal and religious aspects of marriage". He defined the term marriage, its legal aspects, the significance of registering a marriage, and marital actions. Some subjects became the topic debate between students and resource person. He also discussed the Hindu adoption and maintenance acts as well as the Indian divorce legislation. The session came to an end at 12: 20 pm.

Session 6
FAMILY BUDGETING


Anvar sir, the principal of the College of Teacher Education in Kudamaloor, chaired the afternoon session and covered the subject of "Family budgeting." He described many forms of expenses and how to create a good family budget. He advised us to spend 50% of our income to fixed expenditures, 30% in immediate expenses and 20% as savings. This was really an insightful session though at the beginning there were some sort of opinion difference between the resource person and the students, when he told about the dress code to be used in B.Ed colleges, which was then smoothened by the intervention of Anju teacher. At 4:15 PM, the programme came to an end.
