INAUGURATION OF GUIDANCE CELL AND TALK ON STRESS MANAGEMNET
On December 9, at 11: 30 am, the Principal, teachers and student teachers of GCTE Thycaud witnessed the inauguration of the Guidence cell and a talk on stress management. The program began with an invocation of the Almighty by Chinju. S. Nair, first semester B. Ed Student. Jessy. M, first semester B.Ed student delivered the welcome speech in which she welcomed the Principal, General Convenor and Inaugurator of the program, Dr. V. K. Santhosh Kumar Sir and the resource person Jithin Prem, Psychology apprentice, Jeevani cell. She also extended a warm welcome to Asha Krishnan, Assistant Professor and the Convenor of guidence cell.
The inaugural address was delivered by the Principal in which he recalled his memories as a school boy studying in a government school. Through his speech he suceeded in making the students aware of the importance of Guidence in our day-to-day life. Dr. Joli.S, the Vice Principal did the felicitation in which she pointed out the need to reduce our stress and shared the steps which she practice to remain calm.
Following this, the resource person, Jithin Prem started his talk on stress management in which he shared his excitement of lighting a lamp in an official function for the first time in his life. He then began to talk about stress by making interactions with the student teachers. Stress is a normal psychological and physical reaction to the demands of life. A small amount of stress can be good, motivating you to perform well. Stress management is a wide spectrum of techniques and psychotherapies aimed at controlling a person's level of stress, especially chronic stress, usually for the purpose of and for the motive of improving everyday functioning. Stress produces numerous physical and mental symptoms which vary according to each individual's situational factors. These can include a decline in physical health, such as headaches, chest pain, fatigue, and sleep problems, as well as depression. The process of stress management is named as one of the keys to a happy and successful life in modern society. Life often delivers numerous demands that can be difficult to handle, but stress management provides a number of ways to manage anxiety and maintain overall well-being. Thus effective stress management helps us to break the harmful clutches of stress, which inturn help us to achieve the goal of our life. Tackling of stress can help us to be more focused, happier, healthier and productive in our daily lives.
He further explained the difference between stress and anxiety. Stress is always related to our present but anxiety is concerned more with future. There is positive stress and negative stress. He used the term 'use stress' for positive stress. An optimum stress is essential to everyone. He gave information about the anxiety disorders like OCD, OCPD and PTSD. He elaborated the concept of Openness to Experience. Towards the end of the talk he gave certain tips on how to manage our stress. The program came to an end at 12:45 pm by Keerthana S.S extending the vote of thanks. Asha Ma'am gave a reflection of the session and proposed her heart filled gratitude to the resource person Jithin Prem.
