COURSE INAUGURATION AND ORIENTATION 2022-24 : Day 1 and 2

B.Ed 2022-24 batch officially began on 12 September 2022 and Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud  organised the course inauguration and a two day orientation programme for first semester B.Ed students on October 27 and 28.

Day 1 witnessed the official inauguration of the programme at the UGC hall. The chief guest of the day was Dr. Jayaprakash R K, Director of SCERT, Kerala. The program was coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Issac Paul, Assistant Professor in Commerce department and Dr. Jayakrishna K, Assistant Professor in Hindi  department. The general convenor of the program was Dr. V K Santhosh Kumar, Principal of GCTE.


The inaugural session began with an invocation by Ms. Parvathy S. The B.Ed academic coordinator Dr. Jayakrishna delivered the welcome speech and this was followed by the presidential address by the Principal Santhosh Kumar sir. He talked of the potentialities and  expressed his of the New  Educational Policy. He also hinted about the shortage of seats in B.Ed colleges. The inaugural address rendered by Dr. Jayaprakash sir began his speech by congratulating the students for choosing teaching profession and their entry to GCTE family. He focused on the merits of the course like the development of abilities to face future problems, the ability to cultivate scientific temper, the overall development of students and highlighted the divinity and dignity associated with teaching profession. He also stressed the importance of technology oriented classrooms and the creative ideas and changes the teacher should adopt and adapt inorder to bridge the gap. Principal gave a momento and a gift to the chief guest as a token of our love. Vice principal Dr. Joly. S and IQAC co-ordinator Sri. Rahul V R delivered the felicitation and Ms. Chinju S Nair, first year B.Ed student expressed the vote of thanks and reflection on the session.


The first day of the orientation consist of 4 sessions. The first session on "Teacher Preparedness in Psychological Perspective" was handled by Sri Rahul VR. He stressed the need to update our knowledge to rise up to the challenges and expectations of the new age and the need to corelate information to the society for better teaching-learning experience.  He also added that a teacher should develop holistically and not just confine to his own subject. The Vote of thanks was expressed by Ms. Keerthana Anil.

The second session on "Pedagogy and Teacher" was handled by Ms. Sheena Elizabeth Varghese and she was welcomed to the dias by Ms. Maria George. Sheena ma'am etymologically traced the origin of the word 'pedagogy', acquainted us with Herbatian steps and encouraged us to critically think about the scope of pedagogy in adult education. The vote of thanks and reflection on the session was given by Ms. Bhagya Murali. 

For the third session on "Teacher Commitment", Dr. Anju was welcomed to the stage by Ms. Jennifa. Anju ma'am exhorted us to become scaffolders in classrooms who encourage the students for sharing their own experiences and opinions openly and freely. She talks about the qualities to be developed to become an efficient teacher, particularly the quality of intellectual empathy. The teacher showed what a good person should be beyond being a teacher. This was an emotional session for many students as it brought many memories back. Reflection on the talk was given by Ms. Sruthi GS who also conveyed the vote of thanks. The fourth and final session of Day 1 was helmed by Ms. Shiba T.C and she was welcomed by Ms. Gayatri Mahima. The session was about the " Reflective Practices in Teacher Education Programme". Reflection and vote of thanks was rendered by Ms.Devika P.S. 

Day 2 consisted of 5 sessions. The first session of Day 2 orientation programme was undertaken by Dr.Joly who was welcomed by Ms. Parvathy S. Joly ma'am rendered an interesting lecture on "Communication and Teacher" . She divulged the manner in which teachers should interact with their pupils, stating the do's and don't's of teaching practices with examples. Reflection about the session and vote of thanks were done by Ms.Sibana.

In the next session, Ms Revathy BR invited Dr. Jayakrishna K to deliver a talk on "Educational Technology in Teacher Education Programme". This session was conducted in the technology room. Jayakrishna ma'am had acquainted us with the nuances of a techno pedagogue, Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge and virtual classroom softwares. She made us participate in an online quiz via Kahoot. Reflection and vote of thanks was rendered by Ms. Veena Thankarajan.

The third session of Day 2 orientation programme was held under the aegis of Dr. Rajashree who was welcomed by Ms.Sruthi . The topic dealt with was "Classroom Management Practices in Teacher Education Programme" where the speaker focused on classroom environment,  infrastructure and learner engagement activities. The session ended with Mr.Rakesh Mohan's reflection and vote of thanks.

Sri Roshkumar BS was the resource person for the session on "Physical and Health Education in Teacher Education Programme" and he was welcomed by Ms. Rakendu R. Roshkumar sir had given us a better idea about the Physical Education syllabus for B.Ed and highlighted the necessity of exercising regularly to prevent early contraction of lifestyle diseases. Ms.Jessy M took over the duty of reflecting upon the session and delivering vote of thanks.

In the penultimate session, Mr. Amal Muhammed K welcomed Dr Issac Paul to share with us the latter's views on "Teacher Competencies and Skills" . The speaker dealt with the different abilities, skills and competencies required by teachers to make teaching-learning process a success. Mr. Ajmal Roshan delivered reflection and vote of thanks.

The final session of the Orientation Programme was headed by Dr. Jayakrishna K who was welcomed to the dias by Ms.Kavya Dinesh for Course Briefing. Jayakrishna ma'am gave us an overall view of the B.Ed course including how to approach the same from exam perspective. Ms. Bushra Ansari rendered the reflection and thanks giving.

All classes were interesting and exciting and they ignited and illuminated our minds with new thoughts and gave us a clear cut idea of the curriculum and syllabus.
